you don't have to go home, but you do have to go
2003-10-05 @ 6:09 p.m.

It's half past four on a Saturday morning in the Late Night Bar of Evil. Dilettante and Elvis have been out since 7:30 Friday night. They had dinner at the Indian restaurant, but the rest of the time has been spent at the Pub and, when that closed, here at the LNBOE. Mr Evil turns off the music and announces that the bar is closing and it's time to go. Do they:

(a) Gather up their jackets and prepare to leave,
(b) Beg Mr Evil to play one more song, or
(c) Go up to the bar and order another round?

The correct answer, of course, is (c). Answer (b) is possible, but it would depend on the status of our beer glasses. If you guessed (a), you really haven't been reading here very long, have you?

Fast forward to 4:30 am Sunday morning. Same location, same scenario (although we didn't go out until 10:00 pm, had Chinese for dinner, went to the Irish Pub as well).

Same answer, too, although this time it was Den who got the drinks in. Mr Evil said he would play one last song, and I craftily asked him to play some Pink Floyd, knowing full well that once he played Shine On You Crazy Diamond, he couldn't resist following it up with Wish You Were Here. I'm too clever for my own good, sometimes.

Either way, we ended up leaving the LNBOE at 5:30 am, both this morning and yesterday. Yes indeed, once again we were the last ones out of the place, save for the Evils themselves.

Sometime, someone really ought to tell us to Just Go Home.

Which is all well and good, but I doubt we'd listen.
